Appleak for Indie Developers

Indie developers do their own research, marketing and support, often in the same week. Appleak answers the competitor questions that matter to a small team from one box, at a price you pay online.

In short

  • Ask in plain words and get the reviews, ads, creators and charts behind the answer.
  • Built for deciding what to build and how to market it, not for tracking keyword ranks.
  • Free to look around. Pro $75/month and Business $99/month, bought online with no sales call.

The research problem indie developers have

  • There is no analyst. Every hour of research is an hour not spent building.
  • The evidence is spread out: two stores, four ad registers, three video platforms, Reddit and X.
  • The enterprise tools are priced for publishers. Buyers report Sensor Tower contracts of about $29,500 to $115,460 a year (Vendr, read Oct 2026).
  • Most tools answer “how big is this app”, when the question is usually “what is working for it, and what are its users missing”.

What indie developers actually need

  • What users of rival apps complain about, to build the fix.
  • Which ads rivals keep paying for, to write better ones.
  • Creators who already post about the category, to reach the right audience on a small budget.
  • Whether a niche is crowded or rising, before committing months to it.
  • A clear next step for their own app.

How Appleak helps

Category report
Reads the apps in a category and thousands of their reviews, then answers your question from them: why users leave, what they pay for, what is missing.
App analysis
Everything about one app on one page: what its reviews say, its ads, estimated revenue and downloads, who posts about it, its paywall, its pricing and where it has charted.
Ad Search
Which apps in a category advertise, and the ads they run on Meta and TikTok, checked to be their own.
Influencer Search
Creators on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube who already post about your kind of app, checked against what they post, with an outreach board.
UGC videos
Organic videos about apps, matched to the app, with their views.
Rising apps
Apps released in the last 30 days that are already charting, by category and country.
App coach
A coach for your own app that knows your stage and the apps like yours, and gives you a plan for the week.
Buyer Signals
People on Reddit, X, YouTube and TikTok asking for what you make, sorted from complaints, bugs and ideas.

Example use cases

Finding a market gap

Asked “why did people cancel subscription on fitness apps” on 5 Sep 2026, Appleak read 3,105 reviews of 17 apps on both stores and found 88 about cancelling. Its answer: people cancel mainly because they feel tricked into paying, by free trials that charge early, surprise fees and cancellation made deliberately hard.

Finding ad ideas

On 8 Oct 2026, Cal AI had 28 creatives in Meta’s Ad Library. 19 of them led with the same headline, “Limited Time Free Trial 👉”, first shown 18 May 2026 and still running that day. 24 used the same line of body text: “AI can now count your calories—just from a photo.”

Finding creators

A search for “language learning creators” on 11 Oct 2026 read 400 posts, found 428 creators, checked 114 of them against what they actually post, and kept 94 that fit.

Sensor Tower is the reference for market-wide numbers, at a price for publishers. Appfigures is the better choice if daily tracking of your own sales and keyword ranks is the job: it does that for less, from a free plan. Appleak is for the research around marketing and building: what rivals run, who posts about them, and what their users say.

Getting started

  1. Ask your first question. On the dashboard, ask about your category without an @, or name a rival with @ and pick it from the list.
  2. Read the price tag. Most of Appleak reads free sources. When a search costs credits, the price shows before anything is spent.
  3. Add your own app. App coach places your app and writes a plan for the week.
  4. Follow your rivals. Market Watch tells you when an app you follow changes its price, ratings, chart place, version or ads.
  5. Connect your store, if you like. App Store Connect or Google Play, read-only, to see your real figures beside the estimates. Optional, and the key is encrypted.

Questions

Is Appleak affordable for a solo developer?

Looking around is free. The plans are Pro $75/month and Business $99/month, bought online with no sales call, and a search that costs credits shows its price before it runs.

Do I need to connect my App Store account?

No. Everything else works without it. If you connect App Store Connect or Google Play, the access is read-only, and letting your figures improve the estimates or be published are two separate choices, both off until you turn them on.

Does Appleak do ASO keyword research?

No. Appleak has no keyword research and no keyword rank tracking. Tools such as AppTweak and Appfigures are built for that.

Can Appleak tell me what to build?

It tells you what users of existing apps complain about and ask for, counted and quoted, and which new apps are charting. The decision stays yours.

Does it work for Android apps?

Yes. Appleak reads both the App Store and Google Play.

Start with your category.

Ask why users leave the apps you would compete with, and read their own words.
